Woman arrested in Randolph stabbing

Fled into woods with young child

Massachusetts State Police have arrested a woman who fled into the woods last night after a serious stabbing near the ramp from Interstate 93 to Route 24 south in Randolph.

State Police said the woman had a young child with her at the time.

The woman, whose age and identity were not released, is accused of stabbing the driver of a tractor-trailer several times while he was driving on Interstate 93. No other details were released.

The man, whose identity also was not released, was taken to Boston Medical Center with "very serious" injuries, said Sergeant Mike Rafferty, a State Police spokesman.

The woman was captured within minutes of the stabbing in the woods near the ramp, Rafferty said. She was being held at the Milton Barracks.

The relationship between the truck driver and the woman was unclear, and the age of the child was also not available.

Police said that several troopers working paid details in the area responded to the call, which came in at 8:27 p.m.

An arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. today in Quincy District Court, David Traub, a spokesman for Norfolk District Attorney William R. Keating, said.

Keating went to the scene briefly last night, anticipating that investigators may have been dealing with a homicide, Traub said. But officials later determined it was unlikely that the man's injuries would be fatal.

According to WCVB-TV, Channel 5, the truck veered to the side of the highway, where it crashed into a guardrail.

Investigators at the scene said the man fled from the truck and fell to the pavement after the stabbing, according to the station.
