A 38-year-old man was seriously injured when he was shot in Dorchester in a 4-story apartment building yesterday morning.
The man, whom police would not identify, was shot at the Neponset Avenue address just before 9:30, police said.
He was taken to Boston Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Police were searching for a suspect.
Yellow police tape stretched across the front of the building as neighbors stood outside discussing the shooting and children skated by the scene on roller blades.
A resident of the building who was out running errands during the shooting sat outside waiting for police to let him back in.
"It's such a nice neighborhood. You wouldn't expect that here," said the resident, who did not want to give his name, fearful for his safety.
He said his cousin, who is staying with him while she is on vacation, was home during the shooting.
"I talked to her. She said she heard two shots and she went down on the floor," he said.
"The safest thing to do now is moving out," he added.![]()
