SALEM - Walter M. Mroz, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, died last Thursday in the Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers. He was 80.
Born in Peabody, Mr. Mroz graduated from Salem Classical High School in 1943.
He received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Harvard College in 1947.
He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Mroz was stationed in the Caribbean, Atlantic, and Mediterranean aboard amphibious vessels.
Prior to his retirement in 1989, Mr. Mroz was employed as the New England division service manager in the loss prevention department at Liberty Mutual Insurance Co.
He coached youth baseball in Salem and was a member of the Harvard Engineering Society and the American Society of Safety Engineers.
Mr. Mroz leaves his wife, Rosemary A. (Butler); three daughters, Karen E. Fay of Westford, Paula J. Mroz of Caroga Lake, N.Y., and Susan Barrett of Chandler, Ariz.; and five sons, W. Michael of Newburyport, Joel P. of Boston, Timothy J. of Salisbury, Robert of Phoenix, and Kevin of Maui, Hawaii.
He also leaves two sisters, Stacia Drabczuk of Peabody and Mary Dabrowski of La Mesa, Calif.; two brothers, Edmund of Winchendon and Louis of Salem; 14 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was to be said Tuesday in St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Salem.
Burial was to be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Salem.
SAUGUS - Anthony Burt, a longtime Saugus resident, died Sept. 26 in his home. He was 81.
Born in Binghamton, N.Y., Mr. Burt was raised in Swampscott. He graduated from Swampscott High School in 1943.

He coached both youth baseball and seniors in the Babe Ruth League in Saugus.
Mr. Burt was an avid golfer and was a member of the Thomson Golf Club for more than 25 years.
He had lived in Saugus for the past 48 years.
Mr. Burt leaves his wife, Eugenia (Sandilands); a son, Michael, of Reading; two daughters, Sally Burt and Sandra Jensen, both of Lynn; and four grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was said Monday in St. Margaret's Church in Saugus.
Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Saugus.
HAVERHILL - Brenda J. (Riley) Driscoll, a lifelong Haverhill resident, died last Thursday in her home. She was 43.
Born in Haverhill, she graduated from Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School in 1981.
She was employed as a sales representative for the One Stop Market in Haverhill.
Ms. Driscoll leaves her mother, Marcelle J. (Lambert) Riley of Haverhill; three daughters, Mollie K., Hannah E., and Meagan J., all of Haverhill; a son, Michael F. Jr. of Haverhill; two sisters, Cheryl Roy and Sharon Manning, both of Haverhill; a brother, Paul F. Riley Jr. of Haverhill; her fiance, Richard J. Whitney of Haverhill; her former husband, Michael S. Driscoll of Amesbury; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Ms. Driscoll's life was to be held Tuesday in the C. Frank Linnehan and Son Funeral Home in Haverhill.
Burial was to be in Linwood Cemetery in Haverhill.![]()
