ART

Salem: "The Undersea World of Salem Sound," an exhibit of underwater photographs by Donald Whitehead, opens Saturday with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. at sass:C, a collaborative gallery of art and craft on Artists Row, 24 New Derby St. Images taken over 31 years around Salem Sound reveal the variety of underwater flora and fauna, decaying remains of sunken ships, and glacially carved rock formations. The artist will give a one-hour presentation Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Beverly Cooperative Bank at 87 Lafayette St. Whitehead will offer a sub-aquatic travelogue, a combination of natural history, maritime history, dive talk, and sea stories. Beverly: Bear Gallery, Montserrat College of Art's student-run gallery, opens Monday with "Restricted Access." Faculty, staff, and students were restricted to one sheet of paper and three ballpoint pens to create a piece for the exhibit. A reception will be Thursday, 6 to 9 p.m., in the gallery at Beverly Depot Condominiums, 116 Rantoul St. The reception is in conjunction with Beverly Main Streets, BAM! events, 4 to 9 p.m. downtown. montserrat.edu.

KIDS Portsmouth, N.H.: The Music Hall's "KidsRULE!" film series presents a special Columbus Day matinee of the National Geographic film "Arctic Tale," narrated by Queen Latifah (rated G).
