Plymouth police said they arrested a 15-year-old youth yesterday morning in a stabbing after the 20-year-old victim identified the teenager as the person who wielded the knife.
The male teenager, a woman, and a 27-year-old man allegedly attacked the man behind his Cordage Terrace home in Plymouth early yesterday morning after the victim saw the trio huddled around his car and went outside to confront them, said police Captain Michael E. Botieri.
The suspects allegedly chased the man behind his property where they stabbed him in the back and the buttocks, Botieri said.
The victim, who was not identified, then called police and was sent to Jordan Hospital. Minutes later, Marlex Shepard, 27, of Plymouth checked into the hospital for hand injuries. Police at the hospital asked the victim if he recognized Shepard as one of the attackers and he said yes, although he said Shepard was not the stabber, Botieri said. Shepard was arrested on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
About an hour later, police, who were canvassing the victim's neighborhood with canine units, saw a woman sitting on the side of nearby Saverys Lane, nursing small stab wounds to her back, groin area, and leg. With her was the 15-year-old boy, who had what appeared to be a cut on his hand.
After they arrived at Jordan Hospital, the victim identified the teenager as the stabber, Botieri said. Police are investigating whether the woman they found on Saverys Lane was the woman involved in the stabbing. The teenager, who was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, was not identified because he is a minor.
The suspects have said little about what caused their injuries, he said. "They're not telling us much, except that some car went by them and people jumped out and assaulted them," Botieri said.
Botieri said police examined the car and found no signs that the three assailants were trying to break in. He said it does not appear the victim knew his assailants. Police are also investigating whether the stabbing is connected to any fights reported Monday.
