Lorraine Baxter; worked at AT&T

HAVERHILL - Lorraine A. Baxter, a retired AT&T employee, died March 22 at Penacook Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Haverhill. She was 89.

Born in New Hampshire, she graduated from Rochester High School in Rochester, N.H., in 1938. She later moved to Haverhill, where she lived for most of her life.

She worked for AT&T in North Andover for 26 years before her retirement in 1980.

She was a communicant of St. James Parish in Haverhill. She was a member of the St. James Parish Ladies Sodality, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2321, and the Bradford Country Club.

She leaves her sister, Louise, and her goddaughter, Hazel M. McGonagle, both of Haverhill.

A funeral Mass said Tuesday in St. James Church, Haverhill. Burial was in St. James Cemetery.

Gerald Green, 72; was car salesman
PEABODY - Gerald A. Green, a retired car salesman, died March 19 at the Life Care Center of the North Shore in Lynn. He was 72.

Born in New York, Mr. Green was raised in Revere and graduated from Revere High School.

After high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the USS Casa Grande.

He was honorably discharged in 1957 after two years in the service.

He later went on to work as a salesman for York Ford in Saugus for many years. He was a member of the Germania-Revere Lodge of Masons.

He leaves his wife of 49 years, Frances (Terban); two daughters, Jodie Malatzky of Hamilton and Lou Ann Brown of Wakefield; and five grandchildren.

A funeral was held March 21 in Torf Funeral Chapel, Chelsea. Burial was in Tifereth Israel of Revere Cemetery, Everett.

Nicholas Abate, 79, W. Electric worker
GROVELAND - Nicholas A. Abate, a former Western Electric worker, died March 19 in The Oxford Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Haverhill. He was 79.

Born in Haverhill, he was a graduate of Haverhill High School. He later graduated from Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill.

Mr. Abate had been a resident of Groveland since 1967.

He served as a corporal in the Army for two years during the Korean War.

Following his discharge, he worked for Western Electric in North Andover for about 40 years, retiring in 1991.

Mr. Abate was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Haverhill. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America Local No. 1365, Communications Workers of America, and the AFL-CIO.

The husband of the late Mary (McCluskey) for more than 40 years, he leaves two daughters, Sandra Lavalley of Groveland and Patricia Sanders of Andover; two sons, Steven of Peabody and Nicholas of Newburyport; a brother, George, of Atkinson, N.H.; and five grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was said Tuesday in St. John the Baptist Church, Haverhill. Burial was in St. James Cemetery, Haverhill.
