HAVERHILL - Glory M. (Thomas) Chaffee, a former nurse's aide, died March 21 at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill. She was 63.
Born and raised in Haverhill, she graduated from Haverhill High School in 1962 and later graduated from Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill.
Mrs. Chaffee worked as a dietary aide at Hale Hospital in Haverhill and worked as a nurse's aide for several local nursing homes.
She enjoyed singing and playing the guitar.
She leaves three sons, Eric of Newburyport, George of Haverhill, and Jerry of Decherd, Tenn; a brother, Larry Thomas of Arizona; three sisters, Joyce Crockett of Haverhill, Doris McNeil of Plaistow, N.H., and Faith Jameson of Chelmsford; and two grandchildren.
The funeral was held Wednesday at C. Frank Linnehan and Son Funeral Home in Haverhill. Burial was in City Central Cemetery in Haverhill.
John Tierney, 85, phone firm worker
SALEM - John F. "Jack" Tierney, a retired New England Telephone Co. worker, died Monday at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was 85.
Born and raised in Salem, Mr. Tierney graduated from Salem High School.
He worked for New England Telephone before enlisting in the Navy during World War II. Following his discharge, he returned to the phone company, for which he worked for 42 years. Mr. Tierney was a member of the New England Telephone Pioneers. He also helped found the Salem Little League and coached many of its teams.
Mr. Tierney leaves his wife of 64 years, Gertrude (Eagen); three sons, John of Malone, N.Y., Robert of Salem, and Richard of Newburyport; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Friday in Murphy Funeral Home in Salem. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Salem.
Walter A. Syvinski, 74; owned a farm
SOUTH HAMPTON, N.H. - Walter A. Syvinski, a farmer, died last Sunday at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport. He was 74.
Born and raised in South Hampton, Mr. Syvinski was educated locally.
Mr. Syvinski worked on his farm, Valley Acres in South Hampton, for 41 years, producing vegetables that he sold at his farm stand. He also was a small-engine mechanic.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, Blanche (Wise); a son, Kevin, of South Hampton; and two sisters, Ann Warchol of Newburyport, Mass., and Stacia Kujawa of California.
Funeral services were private. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Amesbury, Mass.
Constance Milley, 78; active at church
GROVELAND - Constance H. (Thulin) Milley, a longtime Groveland resident, died March 22 at her home. She was 78.
Born and raised in Saugus, Mrs. Milley was educated in local schools.
She was a Sunday school teacher for many years at Groveland Congregational Church. She helped found the church's Prayer Shawl Ministry and book club, and she participated in four Habitat for Humanity missions.
She leaves her husband, Arthur; two sons, David of Merrimac and Douglas of Saugus; two daughters, Diane Wilhite of Chantilly, Va., and Deidre Cadigan of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a sister, Emma Thorpe of Eustis, Fla; a brother, Donald Thulin of Titusville, Fla; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral was held Friday in Groveland Congregational Church. Burial was private.
