Police are asking the public for help in locating a missing Dorchester man who recently immigrated to Boston from Haiti, police said. A Boston University student reported being assaulted and robbed near the campus, the sixth report of such a crime in almost a month. On Friday at 11 p.m., a male student reported being robbed at knifepoint while walking along the Esplanade, after crossing the Bay State Road footbridge. Two males dressed in skull caps and dark coats - one armed with a silver knife - demanded that the student turn over his wallet, iPod, and cellphone, campus police said. It was unclear if the crime is connected to five other attacks and robberies reported by BU students. On March 8, three women reported separate attacks by a man while they were walking on or near Commonwealth Avenue. On March 29, at 11:15 p.m., a female student reported an attempted robbery near her home on Park Drive. Hours later, on March 30, a female student sitting on the steps of a home on Crowninshield Street in Brookline reported being sexually assaulted and robbed by a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt.LYNN

McNelley jumped out a partly open first-floor window, taking a court officer with him onto the ground a few feet below. State Trooper Robert Noonan, who was in court on other business, ran outside and found the man beating the officer's head with his handcuffs. He and other officers recaptured McNelley. (AP)FAIRHAVEN

Wild animal rabies cases prompt warning
A skunk and a raccoon caught in Uxbridge and a dead skunk found at Old Sturbridge Village have tested positive for rabies, prompting officials to warn local residents to steer clear of wild animals and to monitor their pets. The sickened animals were found over the past 10 days and tested positive for the disease, which can be deadly to humans. In Uxbridge, officials urged pet owners to have their animals vaccinated. According to the Uxbridge Board of Health, local police are not allowed to handle or relocate wildlife, and residents concerned about a possibly rabid animal should call a licensed wildlife specialist. Meanwhile, Old Sturbridge Village will restrict visitor contact with its animals for the next month and a half, officials said. For more information on rabies, call the state Department of Public Health at 617-983-6800.© Copyright 2008 Globe Newspaper Company.
