Darsch headed back to WNBA as coach

Plymouth native Nancy Darsch (inset) is headed back to professional basketball.

After two seasons as an assistant to Cathy Inglese at Boston College, Darsch is departing to be an assistant with the Seattle Storm of the Women's National Basketball Association.

A graduate of the former Plymouth-Carver High School, Darsch coached from 1998 to 2006 in the WNBA, including stints as a head coach in New York and Washington, as well as an assistant's position in Minnesota. She served as the head coach at Ohio State from 1985 to 1987.

At BC, her focus on the court was with the development of post players, and this past season, freshmen Stefanie Murphy and Carolyn Swords soared under her tutelage. Murphy led the Eagles in scoring and rebounding and was tabbed the Rookie of the Year in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Swords led the nation in field-goal percentage.

"I have enjoyed my two seasons at Boston College and appreciate the opportunity to be involved with such a great program," Darsch stated in a release.

BC (21-12) ended its season with a 65-56 loss to St. John's in the third round of the National Invitation Tournament.

Former lacrosse players from Hingham and Weymouth high schools have been invited to participate in the schools' annual alumni game at 4 p.m. April 26 in Weymouth. The game will follow the varsity match between the two schools.

Later that evening, the 30th anniversary gala for the Hingham boys' lacrosse program will be held at the Black Rock Country Club in Hingham.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. and will cost $30 a person.

Brothers Keith and Kevin Gill of Brockton were featured in the "Faces in the Crowd" section of this week's Sports Illustrated.

The brothers are members of the Stonehill men's track and field team and, during the indoor season, both achieved numerous accomplishments.

Keith Gill, a senior, won the Northeast-10 championship in the 800 meters and earned the first New England Indoor championship in school history in the 1,000 meters. He also held the nation's fastest time in the mile for most of the season at 4 minutes 3.43 seconds.

He ended the season as the Northeast-10 Indoor Athlete of the Year, Northeast Region Athlete of the year, and Division II National Track Athlete of the Year.

Kevin Gill, a freshman, earned All-America honors twice during the NCAA Championships in the mile and as part of the distance medley team. He won the Northeast-10 championship in the 1,000 meters.
