Two local musicians will celebrate the release of CDs with parties on Friday.
Christine Baze of Salem, straight from opening for Sheryl Crow in Baltimore, will be at Finz restaurant in Salem for the release of her most recent endeavor, "Ever Changing Colors."
The innovative CD, with music and video production by Jesse Ciarmataro of Salem, includes songs and three music videos.
The date of the show, April 18, marks the eighth anniversary of Baze's diagnosis with cervical cancer. She is now cancer-free and works to inform women of the importance of early detection through her concert tours and website, theyellowumbrella.org. Thomas "Satch" Kerans hosts a party for the release of his CD "Riverboys" at Captain Carlo's in Gloucester at 9 p.m. Friday.
In the early 1990s, Kerans founded and was front man for the Catalinas. After taking a break from recording in the late 1990s, he released his solo debut, "Elliot Street," in 2005.
In addition to writing the 10 tracks on "Riverboys," he plays guitar, organ, and harmonica. The album also features prominent Boston musicians.

YOUTH SYMPHONY CONCERT: Young musicians from the Northshore Youth Symphony Orchestra perform at the Firehouse Center for the Arts in Newburyport for the first time, today at 2 p.m.
The classical concert features works by Bach, Beethoven, and other composers. It highlights members of the orchestra's Honors Chamber Ensembles.
Northshore Youth Symphony Orchestra consists of ensembes for 275 young musicians from 39 Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire communities. Its program for young musicians includes education and performances.
It also provides community service opportunities through Youth Serving Through Music, which presents concerts to those unable to attend at major venues.

AUTHOR'S CORNER: Stewart O'Nan, coauthor of "Faithful: Two Diehard Boston Red Sox Fans Chronicle the Historic 2004 Season," speaks at the Peabody Institute Library in Peabody at 7 p.m. Wednesday. IN LOCAL GALLERIES: An exhibit of paintings by Tricia Mansfield of West Newbury is at the GAR Memorial Library in West Newbury through May 19. Mansfield, a wetlands wildlife researcher, incorporates nature into her artistic themes. The paintings in this exhibit were inspired by daily observances of familiar places in her hometown and a family vacation spot on Cuttyhunk Island, 14 miles off the coast of New Bedford. . . . Color photography by James Bird and Vicki Ryer are on display at Front Street Coffee House in Salem through April 30. Bird's photos emphasize the shapes and colors of rural and urban landscapes, while Ryer's work explores shapes, shadows, colors, and light, often in the abstract.
