Alfred Pelletier, 78; was an upholsterer

PEABODY - Alfred N. Pelletier, an upholsterer, died April 21 at Salem Hospital in Salem. He was 78.

Born and raised in Salem, Mr. Pelletier attended Salem schools before joining the US Army and serving in the Korean War.

He was employed as an upholsterer for more than 50 years, and worked for several upholstering companies on the North Shore.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Dinsmore); four sons, William and Norman, both of Salem, Edward of Lynn, and Timothy of Milford; two daughters, Elaine and Ellen, both of Salem; two brothers, Leo of Salem and Ernest of Beverly; and five grandchildren. Funeral services and burial were private.

Oliver Brett, 81, machine designer
BEVERLY - Oliver C. Brett, a retired shoe machine designer, died April 21 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was 81.

Born and raised in Middleborough, Mr. Brett graduated from Middleborough High School in 1944. He later attended the Lowell Institute of MIT in Lowell.

Mr. Brett went on to serve in the Army during World War II.

He worked as a machine designer for United Shoe Machine Corp. in Beverly for 36 years before his retirement in 1988.

He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Bass Haven Yacht Club in Beverly, and VFW Post No. 545 in Beverly. He was a member of the Dane Street Congregational Church in Beverly.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Irene (Rostron); a son, Robert of East Kingston, N.H.; a daughter, Carolyn Martin of Swampscott; and two grandchildren.

A funeral was held Friday at Dane Street Congregational Church, Beverly. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, West Boxford.

Jeannette Attarian, 100; was teacher
HAVERHILL - Jeannette L. (Perrone) Attarian, a retired schoolteacher, died April 19 at Baker-Katz Nursing Home in Haverhill. She was 100.

Born in Lynn, Mrs. Attarian was raised in Haverhill. She graduated from Haverhill High School in 1925 and went on to graduate from Fitchburg Normal School in Fitchburg in 1927.

She worked as a teacher in Haverhill and Amesbury public schools for many years. She taught at Rocks Village School, Lowell Avenue School, and Tilton School in Haverhill, and Amesbury Middle School and Cashman Elementary in Amesbury, retiring in 1977.

She was a communicant of Sacred Hearts Church in Bradford.

The wife of the late James J. Attarian, she is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Tomlinson of Las Vegas.
