Toning it down
Today, 4/27: Tom Morello, cofounder and lead guitarist of Rage Against the Machine, is now going it alone and tempering his tone as the Nightwatchman. Now, Morello is singing - the subject matter remains the same: social justice - and he's traded in his Tele for an acoustic guitar. Berklee Performance Center, 136 Mass. Ave., 7:30 p.m. $15. 617-747-2261.

Licking it up
Tuesday, 4/29: Take a break from your typical routine to scream for ice cream. It's the 30th annual Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day. There may be lines at the 430 franchised shops across the United States, but there will be about 40 flavors available, all for free. 20 Park Plaza, or at other sites around the city. benjerry.com.

Resisting, with humor
Friday, 5/2: South African AIDS education activist and political satirist Pieter-Dirk Uys quips about sociopolitical and sexual status in South Africa in his witty one-man show, "Elections and Erections: A Chronicle of Fear and Fun." His work was banned for much of the apartheid regime, when he encouraged the resistance movement through performances. Zero Arrow Theater at the ART, 64 Brattle St., Cambridge, 8 p.m. $52. 617-547-8300.
