DANVERS - Arlen L. Cohn, owners of
Born in Lynn, Mr. Cohn was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire. Following graduation, he served in the Navy during World War II.
He was longtime resident of Beverly before moving to Danvers more than 10 years ago.
He owned the Beverly clothing store for many years, and donated many clothes to local charities.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Marjorie (Matson); a daughter, Terrie Banhazl of Wayland; a son, Gary, of Florida; a sister, Barbara Younger of Danvers; and four grandchildren.
The funeral was held Tuesday at Stanetsky-Hymanson Funeral Chapel, Salem. Burial was in Sons of Abraham Cemetery in Beverly.
James F. Beston, 93; worked for Peabody public works
PEABODY - James F. Beston, a lifelong Peabody resident, died April 29 at Brooksby Village in Peabody. He was 93.
Born and raised in Peabody, he was a graduate of Peabody High School. He later served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was employed at the Peabody Department of Public Works for many years until his retirement in 1982.
He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 11 in Peabody.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Lilla M. (Connelly); a daughter, Judy Bozek of Moscow; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was said yesterday in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
Sandra Knowler of Merrimac, a former nurse; at 72
MERRIMAC - Sandra P. (Roy) Knowler, a former nurse, died April 26 at Kindred Hospital in Peabody. She was 72.
Born in Swampscott and raised in Lynn, she graduated from Lynn English School in 1953. She received nurse's training at Salem Baby Hospital, and then worked as a nurse for many area hospitals.
She was a communicant of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Merrimac, and was a member of the choir.
She was married to the late David H. Knowler. She leaves a daughter, Debra Pelletier of Atkinson, N.H.; three sons, David of Germany, Scott of Salisbury, and Daniel of Salem, N.H.; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday in Locust Grove Cemetery, Merrimac.
