NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH - The former owner of a seafood wholesale company facing charges of trying to defraud a bank of $7 million is in federal custody after several months on the lam in Latin America.

Federal prosecutors say Robert Coutu was arrested in Costa Rica last month and is in Florida awaiting transport to Massachusetts.

Coutu was arrested after attempting to enter Costa Rica on a Panamanian passport, according to court documents.

The former owner of Ocean Fresh Seafood in North Attleborough vanished in September after an audit led to the discovery of millions of dollars in irregularities in inventory and sales records.

An FBI affidavit says Coutu spent the time living in Venezuela and Panama.

Coutu faces bank fraud and money laundering charges.

No date for his arraignment has been scheduled.
