How to get from here to there, and the ways various modes of transit have shaped the neighborhoods, will be the focus of the Allston Brighton Community Development Corporation's annual meeting June 3.
Historian William Marchione will give the historical perspective, while Fred Salvucci, secretary of transportation for both Dukakis administrations and now a senior lecturer at MIT, will talk about the challenges facing a community with large-scale development. Among the topics is how residents can reach the best long-term transportation solutions.
"We have been thinking about holistic community issues, and transportation is one of them," said M.H. Nsangou, the development corporation's executive director. "With institutional growth on two ends of the neighborhood, we are at a juncture where we can look at new transportation issues, including mobility and environmental impacts."
Before the meeting starts at 7 p.m., there will be light refreshments and tranportation-related displays by a variety of groups, from WalkBoston to ZipCar. The meeting will take place at the Veronica Smith Senior Center, 20 Chestnut Hill Ave., Brighton. Further information is available at 617-787-3874 or online at allstonbrightoncdc.org.
