CHELSEA
Today at 11:30 a.m., city officials will join company representatives for a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the opening of an El Pollo Loco restaurant at Chelsea Commons, the mixed retail and rental housing development on the site of the former Parkway Plaza off Revere Beach Parkway. The restaurant is the third in New England and the 400th overall to be opened by the California-based chain, known for its citrus-marinated, flame grilled chicken. Within the last month, a CVS and a Chili's restaurant also have opened at Chelsea Commons, and a McDonald's is expected to begin serving customers next month, according to City Manager Jay Ash. - John Laidler

FIREFIGHTERS MEMORIAL - The 36th annual observance of the Chelsea Firefighters Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday in front of the city's fire alarm headquarters in Fay Square, next to the central fire station. The International Association of Firefighters, Local 937, the union representing Chelsea firefighters, conducts the ceremony to honor all deceased Chelsea firefighters. A highlight of the ceremony is a performance by The Chelsea Firefighters Pipes and Drums, the bagpipe band made up of firefighters from Chelsea and other communities. -John Laidler

LYNN
KIDS LEARN ABOUT COPS - The Police Department is accepting applications for the Lynn Student Police Academy. The anticrime camp is free, and Lynn youth ages 13 to 17 are eligible to apply. The six-week program, taught by police officers, runs July 7 to Aug. 14. It will meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Breed Middle School on O'Callaghan Way. About 50 spots are available. The deadline to register is June 9. Classroom instruction includes criminal and constitutional law, drug and alcohol laws, and city ordinances. Hands-on learning includes fingerprinting, crime scene investigation, and Internet and water safety. For information, call the police station at 781-595-2000. - Kathy McCabe

MALDEN
AIRPORT ADVISORY REPRESENTATIVE SOUGHT - The city is looking for anyone interested in representing Malden on the Logan Airport Community Advisory Committee. Because the city is affected by airport-related noise, it is allowed to have one representative on the committee. To apply, send a letter outlining qualifications to the City Council by Monday. REVERE
SEE PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING - Residents will get a chance to see the long-awaited $20 million joint public safety building on Revere Beach Parkway at an open house tour scheduled for Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., said Police Captain James R. Guido. The joint police and fire stations are slated to replace two century-old buildings, the police station on Pleasant Street and the Walden Street fire station. Fire officials were scheduled to start moving in today, while police will move in Wednesday, Guido said. A ribbon-cutting and official dedication event is scheduled for 11 a.m. on June 19. - Katheleen Conti
