Woman is struck by car in crosswalk
Driver arrested in West Roxbury
A 43-year-old woman was arrested on charges of driving under the influence after her car struck and critically injured a pedestrian in a West Roxbury crosswalk about 9 p.m. last night, police said.
Officer Ed Crispin of the Boston Police Department declined to release the victim's name, but identified her as a woman in her 40s and called her injuries life-threatening. The victim was transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital for treatment.
Police said that Patricia Dolan, 43, of Roslindale was arrested at the scene and charged with driving under the influence.
Witnesses, who declined to give their names, said that the victim had just left a nearby restaurant and was crossing Belgrade Avenue when she was struck.
The woman was hit by a blue Lincoln LS that sped through the intersection of Belgrade Avenue and Centre Street, witnesses said. The car did not slow down before the victim was struck, the witnesses said.
She hit the windshield and landed 30 to 40 feet from the intersection. The car stopped several hundred feet farther up Centre Street.
As police accident investigators examined the scene last night, one of the victim's shoes could be seen lying far from where her body came to rest. Her cellphone was still lying near the crosswalk. ![]()
