Boston police are investigating the death of a 29-year-old man who was shot and killed at an apartment complex in Dorchester early yesterday.

The death was one of a string of weekend crimes in Dorchester, including a robbery that happened Friday in the same building where the killing occurred. Police are investigating whether there is a connection between the two crimes.

About 2:20 a.m. yesterday, police officers were called to Carney Hospital about a shooting. Investigators learned that the shooting had happened on Ames Street and that the victim had been driven in a private vehicle to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived. He was the city's 29th homicide victim this year, police said. The city had 31 homicides at this time last year.

Anthony, a neighbor who would not give his last name out of fear for his safety, said he heard roughly eight gunshots at about 1:30 a.m. He could not see who was shot, but heard two people talking soon after the gunfire: A man demanded keys from another person before climbing into a sport utility vehicle and driving down a narrow road behind the building, he said.

Police were on the scene at about 2:45. The shooting occurred in the Franklin Field area, which historically has been a hot spot for violence. "It was weird, it's been quiet around here the past few years," Anthony said.

Police were at the same building Friday responding to a robbery. About 6:10 p.m., officers met a teenager who said seven men kicked and punched him while taking his PlayStation Portable and Sidekick cellphone.

According to police, the youth told the officers where two of the alleged attackers had fled and then identified two males police found "breathing heavily" in a nearby apartment.

Police arrested a 15-year-old from Dorchester, who was not identified because he is a juvenile, and 18-year-old Clifford Morris Jr. of Jamaica Plain and charged them with unarmed robbery.

They will be arraigned tomorrow in Dorchester District Court, according to police.

Also yesterday, two teenagers, whose names were not released, were shot in their right hips outside a home on Calder Street, police said. Officers were called at 1:06 a.m. and found a 16-year-old male on the sidewalk and a 15-year-old girl inside the house.

A neighbor who asked not to be identified said that the shooting happened outside the building and that the girl ran inside after she was hit, screaming "I'm shot! I'm shot!"

Both victims were rushed to hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said. No arrests had been made as of last evening.
