Communities lined up requests for taxes

In recent months, residents of 22 area communities faced requests to increase property taxes beyond the limits of Proposition 2 1/2, either through a permanent override to cover operating expenses, or a temporary debt-exclusion override to cover a loan or bond issue for a specific need.

Ashland - Rejected $496,000 operational override

Bolton - Passed $100,000 debt-exclusion override for two DPW trucks, rejected $1 million debt exclusion to purchase land, passed $12,000 for Town Hall copy machine

Boylston - Rejected $624,739 operational override

Franklin - Rejected $2.8 million operational override

Holliston - Rejected $992,000 operational override

Hopkinton - Passed two debt-exclusion overrides totaling $542,000 to fund handicap-accessibility work at all schools and a school feasibility study

Hudson - Passed $4.4 million debt-exclusion override to renovate and expand senior center

Lincoln - Passed debt-exclusion overrides for $5.5 million for road rehabilitation and $200,000 for a firetruck

Medfield - Passed $850,000 operational override

Millis - Passed $400,000 debt-exclusion override for firetruck and $180,000 operational override for additional fire and emergency medical staffing

Newton - Rejected $12 million operational override

Natick - Passed $3.9 million operational override

Norfolk - Rejected $415,000 operational override and a debt-exclusion request for a public safety building estimated at $14 million

Northborough - Passed $131,566 operational override and $6 million debt-exclusion override for new senior center

Plainville - Passed $650,000 operational override

Sherborn - Passed $270,000 debt-exclusion override to purchase land and rejected a debt-exclusion request for developing a senior center

Shrewsbury - Rejected $1.5 million operational override

Stow - Passed $195,000 debt-exclusion override for a firetruck and rejected $1.28 million debt-exclusion request for synthetic turf field at Nashoba Regional High School

Sudbury - Rejected alternative operational overrides for $1.8 million or $2.8 million

Upton - Rejected $486,000 operational override

Wayland - Passed $1.9 million operational override and $1.93 million debt-exclusion override for school technology equipment and town vehicles

Weston - Passed $1.2 million debt-exclusion operation for various capital items
