Car hits, kills pedestrian crossing street

BOSTON
A pedestrian crossing Washington Street in Roxbury was struck and killed by a car last night, police said. The man, whom police would not identify, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 8:45 p.m. accident, Officer David Estrada said. He said police have interviewed the driver and continue to investigate. No charges were filed last night.

Sentencing in strangling is rescheduled
The sentencing of a man convicted of strangling a Milton woman and then moving her body to Franklin Park, where he burned it, has been rescheduled to today. Rodrick Taylor was convicted last week of second-degree murder in the April 2006 death of Dominique Samuels, 19. He was supposed to be sentenced yesterday. Prosecutors said Taylor, 37, strangled the former Milton High School cheerleader, took her body from her Dorchester rooming house, and burned it in an attempt to destroy evidence. Taylor denied killing Samuels. (AP)

Patrick to host picnic for Legislature
Governor Deval Patrick is throwing a party for the Legislature at his Berkshires retreat. The governor and his wife, Diane, will host Senate and House members and their guests for a picnic at his home in Richmond on Aug. 2. (AP)

MANSFIELD
Teen shot to death at housing complex
An 18-year-old was shot and killed in Mansfield last night while sitting in his Jeep at a housing complex, according to published reports. The teenager, who was not identified, was transported to a Rhode Island hospital after the 7 p.m. shooting, where he was pronounced dead, the Attleboro Sun Chronicle reported. Police using helicopters and dogs were involved in a search for suspects early this morning, combing the Edgewood Condominiums complex on Erick Road and the surrounding woods off Route 106. The Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council's special tactics team was called in, with officers in full SWAT team gear.

WAYLAND
Missing teen found unharmed, on foot
A missing Wayland teenager was found unharmed yesterday walking along Route 126 in Lincoln, police said. Police began searching for Sarah Cramer, 16, on Sunday when she had not been seen since leaving her job as a lifeguard at the Wayland Swimming and Tennis Club. The last sighting of Cramer had been at 10:20 a.m., when she walked into the woods toward her home, located nearby on Autumn Lane.

MERRIMACK, N.H.
UNH, NU, UMass to share $12.6m grant
The University of New Hampshire is in line to share a $12.6 million grant with Northeastern University and the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. The National Science Foundation has recommended renewing the five-year grant to develop nanotechnology. (AP)

Dodds pleads not guilty in fight with wife
Former New Hampshire congressional candidate Gary Dodds has pleaded not guilty to assault and false imprisonment charges stemming from an altercation with his estranged wife. A judge set bail at $25,000 personal recognizance and $10,000 cash at Dodds's arraignment yesterday. Prosecutors say Cindy Dodds showed up at the emergency room Thursday night saying she had been kidnapped by Gary Dodds. She said that during a series of arguments he told her he would rape her. (AP)
