Officers find man wanted in N.J. shooting
Boston police with the Fugitive Apprehension Unit last night picked up a New Jersey man listed on that state's "Most Wanted" list. Jonathan B. Garcia, 24, of Newark was wanted in connection with a triple shooting in New Jersey. He faces several charges of aggravated assault and will be arraigned today in Roxbury District Court on a charge of being a fugitive from justice. Officers in the Dudley Street area of Roxbury recognized Garcia on a scooter from a "Most Wanted" poster distributed by the Newark Police Department. A feud over a washing machine last night in Dorchester left a man in critical condition at Boston Medical Center. Two brothers-in-law were arguing about the appliance at a home on Harwood Street when the violence erupted, police said. Luther Boid, 42, was arrested in stabbing of the unidentified victim, Officer Eddy Chrispin said. A theft suspect performed a mini triathlon Tuesday night as he tried to elude officers by pedaling, swimming, and running away, police said. Jason B. Duncan, 29, of Somerville took a bike on Commercial Street in the North End at about 10 a.m. and was spotted later on Hanover Street, police said. Officers attempted to approach him as he rode over the North Washington Street Bridge, but he jumped into Boston Harbor, police said in a statement. Duncan swam to the side and ran down a walkway but was caught after a foot pursuit, police said. He faces charges of receiving stolen property, possession of burglarious tools, and resisting arrest, said Officer Eddy Chrispin, a police spokesman.Lawyer gets 9 years for fraud, tax evasion
A Princeton man was sentenced Tuesday to nine years in prison on federal wire fraud and tax-evasion charges. Prosecutors say Alan Mason, 61, was also sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay more than $6.6 million in restitution. Authorities say that Mason, a lawyer and real estate investor, took money from banks that was supposed to pay off liens on properties for closings he was handling and that instead he used the money for personal purposes. Dodds found unresponsive in jail cell
Former New Hampshire congressional candidate Gary Dodds, who has been in jail since July 3 following his arrest on charges that he assaulted his wife, has been hospitalized. WMUR-TV reported yesterday that Dodds was found unresponsive in his jail cell and was taken to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover. One of Dodds's lawyers, J.P. Nadeau, told the Portsmouth Herald that Dodds was conscious, but unresponsive when Nadeau tried to speak to him at the hospital. (AP)FRAMINGHAM
R.I. man held on pornography charge
A 43-year-old former Framingham resident was arraigned and held on $50,000 cash bail Tuesday in Dedham on one count of possession of child pornography. Police said Kenneth Conti, 43 of Johnston, R.I., had photos of child pornography at his workplace. Conti's employer reported the alleged images to the attorney general's office, which then conducted an investigation. Within Conti's cubicle, investigators found sexually explicit photos of children in binders and on USB drives, they said. Conti is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 20 for a pretrial hearing.CAPE CORAL, Fla.
Mother to return to face abuse charges
A New Hampshire woman accused of brutally abusing her stepdaughter has agreed to return to the state from Florida to face charges. Cara LeBlanc, 29, appeared in court yesterday in Florida, after police arrested her Tuesday. She is accused of beating the 8-year-old child for nine hours last week, repeatedly throwing her down a flight of stairs. In court yesterday, LeBlanc waived an extradition hearing.
