Andover: The Andover Farmers' Market is open every Saturday through Oct. 11, 12:30-3:30 p.m., on the lawn of the Andover Historical Society, 97 Main St. Created to support local growers and businesses, the market features locally produced fruits, vegetables, flowers, breads and baked goods and, every week, another educational or entertaining program such as beekeeping on Aug. 23 and 18th-century cooking on Aug. 30. andoverhistorical.org/farmersmarket, 978-475-2236.
Belmont: Belmont Farmers' Market is open every Thursday, 2-6:30 p.m., through Oct. 16, at the Belmont Center Municipal Parking Lot at Cross Street and Channing Road. The market features organic and nonorganic produce as well as meats, cheeses, and baked goods. Food-pantry donations may also be dropped off at the market on the third Thursday of the month. belmontfarmersmarkets.org.
Concord: Verrill Farm started out in 1922 as a farm stand under a tent. Since then it has grown into a premiere agricultural center offering its own homegrown produce and products, as well as carrying and promoting specialty foods and products made in the New England area. A tomato and corn festival takes center stage today from noon until 4 p.m., at the farm, at 11 Wheeler Road, where there will be tastings ($8), music by the Monadnock Bluegrass Band, and children's activities. Other events this fall include: a Sept. 7 barbecue, and a harvest festival to benefit pediatric care at Emerson Hospital on Oct. 11. verrillfarm.com, 978-369-4494.
Lexington: The Lexington Farmers' Market is open Tuesdays, 2-6:30 p.m., at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Woburn Street. Along with the expected offerings of local produce, expect to find fish, meats, beeswax, biscotti, a variety of prepared foods, and sometimes even sheep's milk, gelato, and tapenades. Westford: The Westford Farmers' Market is open Tuesdays, 3-7 p.m., through Oct. 28, on the Westford Common. Look for farm-fresh eggs, grass-fed antibiotic-free meats, locally made cheeses, and much more, while enjoying entertainment on the historic bandstand.
