Rockland police are searching for a man who tried to abduct an 11-year-old girl Monday, a week after the attempted abduction of a 7-year-old girl about a mile away in that town.

The 11-year-old was playing in a yard on Concord Street when a man stepped from behind a fence, grabbed her arm, and tried to pull her into the bushes, police said.

The girl screamed, broke away from the man, and ran home, police said. She told police the man ran toward Harmon Golf Club.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot man who may have dark hair. He was wearing a black shirt, gloves, and black pants, and he had a chain hanging out of his pocket, police said.

A man also approached a 7-year-old girl who was playing outside her West Water Street home on Oct. 6, police said.

He grabbed the girl by her arm and said, "You're coming with me," police said. When she called out to one of her friends, the suspect let go, returned to his car, and left the area, police said. There might have been a second person in the car, police said.

The suspect is described as a slender 25-year-old white male with freckles and brown hair. He was driving an older, red four-door sedan.

Rockland police also responded to a call about the suspicious operator of a red Chevrolet sedan driven up and down West Water Street earlier this week. The caller told police that two white males were looking at children.

It is not known whether the incidents were related.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Rockland police at 781-871-3890.
