Calendar is Exhibit A in case for beautiful lawyers

Quick: What adjective leaps to mind when you hear the word lawyer? Slippery? Manipulative? Money-grubbing?

A 2009 calendar featuring color photographs of 12 Massachusetts lawyers offers another modifier: beautiful.

Yeah, we know, a calendar called "Beautiful Lawyers" seems an oxymoron like "jumbo shrimp" and "definite maybe."

But the folks who produced the calendar in part to raise money for Greater Boston Legal Services and other charities say it proves that behind many power suits are men and woman with diverse interests and even some sex appeal.

"Over the last 20 years of running an ad agency, I've gotten to know the personal side of attorneys, whether it's playing golf with them or going sailing with them," said Eugene Allen, chief executive of the Allen Roche Group, one of three men behind the calendar. "Most people don't come into contact with that."

Look no further than March for Exhibit A. There, in a black evening gown with dramatic décolletage, is Wendy Savage, an in-house lawyer for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. of Boston.

Savage, 28, has worked as a model and is a fan of equestrian sports, singing, and the Animal Rescue League of Boston. She doesn't care if people think her picture is too revealing. "If someone wants to drink the hater-ade, then they can do so," she said.

The calendar, which was sponsored by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly and costs $19.95, details each lawyer's personal interests. Other lawyers selected from about 500 submissions include Kimberly Herman, an intellectual property lawyer, and Jarrett Barrios, president of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation and a former state senator.
