A Charlestown man was arrested yesterday for allegedly assaulting two Somerville police officers by hitting them with his car.

Calvin Jones, 22, has been charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder and two counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, Somerville police said.

Police responded to a report shortly before 7 a.m. yesterday that several people had driven into a boat storage yard and were on foot in the area of the Winter Hill Yacht Club.

When officers arrived, they found four people, one of whom was Jones. During a search of his car, Jones allegedly sped off, striking the officers.

One officer, who was dragged a short distance, was taken to Somerville Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

A second officer was also hit but did not need medical treatment.

The suspect also hit a civilian with his vehicle, police said.

Somerville police, State Police, the FBI, and Salem police searched for Jones throughout the day. He was found in downtown Salem and arrested.

Jones is scheduled to be arraigned in Somerville District Court on Monday.
