PROVIDENCE - The American Civil Liberties Union wants Governor Don Carcieri of Rhode Island held in contempt of court for not seeking public comment before implementing an executive order cracking down on illegal immigrants.

Superior Court Judge Mark Pfeiffer ruled in September that Carcieri did not follow laws mandating he accept public comment before implementing part of his order, which forces firms doing business with the state to use a federal database to check immigration status of new hires. A hearing is scheduled tomorrow.
