Winchester resident Jonathan Carson's entrepreneurial skills emerged in college, when he started his own businesses renting dorm refrigerators and delivering kegs of beer to fellow students. By the time he graduated, he had gained confidence and valuable experience in logistics, transportation, employee relations, and price negotiation.

Carson (inset) continued to hone those skills in various business ventures after graduating from Babson College in 1979, with a double major in finance and marketing. He was recently inducted into Babson College's Alumni Entrepreneur Hall of Fame.

"At first, I thought there must have been a mistake," he said of his reaction to the letter informing him of the honor. "Once it sunk in, I was very flattered."

Carson specializes in establishing for-profit companies that also provide for the greater good. He is chairman and chief executive officer of Cambridge-based cMarket Network, which connects thousands of nonprofit and school clients to donated items through its consumer shopping portal, BiddingForGood.com. Previously, he founded the Family Education Network, which assists schools in developing a Web presence, including an information portal for teachers, students, parents, and administrative staff.

Carson has also served on numerous boards, including the National School Boards Foundation, Boston Children's Museum, ePhilanthropy Foundation, and Net Impact.
