For this charity, car donations work

I'm amazed that some charities that rely on heavily advertised car donation programs receive only 7 percent of the proceeds, since we receive 50 percent. ("Fund-raisers for charity take a chunk," Jan. 25.)

At the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange, we rely on a car donation program for over $100,000 annually, thanks to our partner Route 128 Used Auto Parts & Sales. They pick up and sell the donated vehicles for whatever a willing buyer agrees to pay, or for parts. We split the proceeds 50/50 with Route 128 - and they bear the cost of towing. We give donors a tax receipt for the full value of the donation.

A local TV investigative crew reported that MARE's car donation program is one of the "better ways to maximize donation dollars." These donations fund MARE's work to find adoptive families for children in foster care.

Your readers see some of that work - our Sunday's Child features in the Boston Sunday Globe, another valued partner. Together, we're raising awareness of the children who are waiting for loving homes.

Thank you for your support, and for cautioning the public to go directly to the charity they wish to support.
