JP Beer and Wine will remain shuttered while owners wait to appear before the state Alcohol Beverages Control Commission. A divided Board of Selectmen voted last month to deny a request from the Salem Road liquor store to stay an order to revoke its license. Selectmen had unanimously revoked the license on June 8 after police caught a clerk illegally selling alcohol to a minor for the third time in 18 months. The owner of JP Beer and Wine, the Dhir Corporation, is to appear before the ABCC on July 22 to appeal the decision. - Brenda J. Buote

TOWN TO HIRE AIDE - After more than six months without, the town will hire an administrative assistant in the selectmen’s office. When longtime assistant Linda Cardavelli retired in 2008, she was not replaced because of a hiring freeze. The budget for the new fiscal year allows for the position, according to Town Administrator Bill Gustus. - David Rattigan

LIBRARY HOURS - Officials at Flint Memorial Library have announced a new schedule, which reduces Monday and Saturday hours. The hours, which became effective July 1, are 1 to 5 p.m. Mondays and, starting in September, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The library is closed on Saturdays in summer. The hours are a cost-saving measure approved by Town Meeting last month. - Richard Thompson

REILLY WON’T RUN - Town Council president Thomas E. Reilly said he will not seek reelection to a third term this fall. Reilly has held the seat since the council was established in 2005 as a result of a charter change. “I’m just not in a position to commit the time that’s necessary,’’ Reilly said. Not running also frees him to focus on town business over the remaining six months of his term, he said. - John Laidler
