I don’t know a thing about Mary Sullivan’s circumstances beyond reading today’s article (“It’s her title fight,’’ Globe West, Oct. 25).

If Brandeis discriminated against her, it must make amends. That said, as someone who may have experienced age discrimination firsthand, circumstances are almost always more complicated than they appear. But that is not why I’m writing.

My daughter is a high school senior who plays on Jess Johnson’s summer league team. Whatever Brandeis may or may not have gotten wrong when it terminated Mary Sullivan, it got right when it hired Jess.

She is an extraordinary human being. Her coaching credentials are compelling. She was a four-time Academic All-Conference and two-time All-American softball player at Wheaton. She successfully coached at two area colleges before joining Brandeis. She holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology. More important, she is fair, compassionate, and absolutely dedicated to helping her players become strong, confident, caring young women. She works tirelessly and without compensation to help prepare her summer girls for college. And she clearly has excelled at Brandeis.

Mary Sullivan’s case will be heard and hopefully resolved fairly and equitably. Just know that irrespective of that outcome, the Brandeis team is in great hands.
