The local volunteer group Team Haverhill has been selected by the Massachusetts Cultural Council to receive a 2011 Commonwealth Award for the organization’s “extraordinary efforts to make Haverhill a better place to live, work, and visit,’’ according to a statement from Anita Walker, executive director of the council. “Team Haverhill is both surprised and honored to receive statewide recognition in our fifth anniversary year,’’ said Team Haverhill chairwoman Alice Mann. Given every two years, the Commonwealth Awards is intended to shine a spotlight on the extraordinary contributions that arts and culture make to education, economic vitality, and quality of life in communities across the state. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place Feb. 9 at the State House. For more information, visit www.teamhaverhill.com. — Brenda J. Buote ![]()
