The Brockton Area Transit Authority is launching an automated fare-collection system that will accept MBTA Charlie Cards on all buses. Along with the March 28 start comes a fare increase of 25 cents for most adult tickets. Cash will still be accepted, though Charlie Card users will receive a 10-cent discount, with seniors, Medicare card holders, and disabled riders gaining an additional 5-cent discount. BAT Riders’ Club members will have the option to purchase one-, seven-, and 31-day passes. The Charlie Cards, available at MBTA outlets, will be available from vending machines at the BAT Center in late April. For more information, visit www.ridebat.com or call 508-588-1000. — Steve Hatch
