The drinking water supply for the school, library, fire, and police departments recently tested positive for coliform and should not be consumed, according to the Nashoba Associated Boards of Health. Coliform is a bacteria that is naturally present in the environment and is used as an indicator that other bacteria may be present. The Board of Health said the discovery of coliform is a sign that there could be a problem with the system’s treatment system or pipes. Follow-up testing is being done. In the meantime, the town has notified consumers and provided bottled water to the affected public buildings. The food service at Blanchard School will not be using the water in cooking and will use disposable plates and utensils. Cooking utensils and equipment will be washed, rinsed, and sanitized.
