The Boxborough Cane, awarded to the town’s oldest resident, will be presented to 98-year-old Florence White during a ceremony at 2 p.m. next Sunday at the Boxborough Museum. In 1909, the Boston Post newspaper initiated a program of awarding walking canes to the oldest citizen through the Board of Selectmen of each town. Boxborough was not included, however, so on June 1, 1997, the Boxborough Historical Society established its own tradition, and asked a local craftsman to make a cane from a white oak tree. White, who moved to Boxborough in 2000, will be the sixth person to hold the cane. All residents are invited to attend the ceremony and then tour the museum. - Jennifer Fenn Lefferts
