The famed Lipizzan horses are scheduled for three shows at Cogswell’s Grant in Essex starting Friday.
EVENTS
Essex: The Herrmann family, breeders of the Lipizzan horse, demonstrate horsemanship in three shows. These stallions are among the last horses capable of executing the “Airs Above the Ground’’ maneuvers, dramatic leaps developed as battle maneuvers in the 16th century. They are among the most beautiful displays of equine grace and strength. Friday at 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cogswell’s Grant, 60 Spring St. $8-$15. 978-768-3632, www.historicnewengland.org/lipizzans.
Lynn: Fall Fest on the Waterfront features music, arts and crafts, food, and children’s activities. It ends with an outdoor film. Saturday beginning at noon. Heritage Park Waterfront, The Lynnway. Free. http://lynnarts.org/special-events/fall-fest/
MUSIC
Haverhill: The April Verch Band performs a joyful night of fiddling, stepdancing, and song. April’s fiddling delivers textured phrasing on traditional roots tunes, bluegrass, jazz-influenced compositions, and country music. When she adds the rhythmic art of stepdancing, the metal taps on April’s shoes generate exhilarating cadences that enhance her music. Saturday, 8 p.m. New Moon Coffeehouse, 16 Ashland St. $20, 18 and under $10. www.newmooncoffeehouse.org
