After previously requesting more financial information, the Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday to fund two contracts that Mayor Setti Warren had negotiated with police and a municipal union. By a vote of 21 to 1, with two absences, the aldermen approved the allocation of $425,191 to fund the first year of agreements reached with the Newton Police Association and the Newton Municipal Employees Association, , as well as a group of nonunion employees that includes several managerial positions, according to Aaron Goldman, spokesman for the mayor. Also, the School Committee and the Newton Teachers Association have signed a memorandum of agreement stating that the parties are “nearing contract settlements.” Both sides said last week that progress has continued since the agreement’s signing on Aug. 26. - Lisa Kocian![]()
