Benefit walk Columbus Day

The 11th Annual Skylur J. Spagone Walk for Children is slated Columbus Day, Oct. 10, 8 a.m. until noon, starting at the Town Common. The 3.7-mile walk will be held rain or shine. It is the major fund-raiser for the Skylur Spagone Memorial Fund, set up in memory of Skylur Spagone, a 2-year-old who died in a pool accident in 2000. Proceeds benefit local children. Last year, more than 450 walkers turned out and raised $23,000. Since the fund was established, more than $100,000 has been raised. - Christine Legere
