Chelmsford is in line to receive more funding for environmental cleanup work at 27 Katrina Road, a Massachusetts Brownfield Support Team site. Funding for the project comes from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental protection, US Environmental Protection Agency, and MassDevelopment, the state’s finance and development agency. Town officials will use the money to prepare the former Silicon Transistor Corp. land for future development. The site is one of six across the state that were selected as Brownfield Support Team sites in 2010. A pilot program brings together key state and federal agencies to help communities solve problems that impede the redevelopment of contaminated properties. The state Department of Environmental Protection will provide $257,000 for the project, while the EPA’s $200,000 grant will help pay for cleanup and demolition of the building. The EPA has already provided $218,245 in site assessment funds. - Brenda J. Buote ![]()
