The Upton Board of Selectmen has scheduled a joint meeting of Mendon and Upton town and school officials, seeking to improve the regional school district’s funding process. “The main issue is a better dialogue about the school budget and needs,’’ said Blythe Robinson, town manager in Upton. “In the past, both towns have gotten the budget from the district late in the process without much detail, and then been frustrated when the school board changed their position on how much they needed.’’ Mendon and Upton voted on overrides in 2011, necessary to fund the school district for the current academic year. Both towns have also formed committees to explore deregionalizing the district, but officials on both sides voiced concerns at an Aug. 30 meeting that such a move could financially hurt both communities. The meeting is Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Nipmuc Regional High School. - James O’Brien![]()
