Zero Waste Day

Residents can make a contribution to the environment and help people in need by taking part in Tewksbury’s third annual Zero Waste Day on Saturday. The event gathers multiple area charities at a single location to accept donations of clothing and other surplus household items. The town’s Recycling Committee and the Tewksbury Congregational Church jointly run the program. Organizers say the intent is to give charities a chance to receive donations in one large batch, and to allow for surplus household items to go to people in need rather than entering the waste stream; the arrangement is also a convenience for residents with a variety of goods to pass along. Zero Waste Day drew more than 400 cars in each of the first two years. This year’s event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Wynn Middle School parking lot. Fourteen charities will be accepting goods, with volunteers on hand to help unload cars. Electronics recycling will be available on a fee basis.
