- Sippican Lands Trust has received an anonymous $25,000 challenge donation to help close the conservation group’s gap on fund-raising for a purchase of 360 acres in the Aucoot Cove watershed, between Routes 6 and 195. Funds matching the donation must be raised by Dec. 31 to complete the stewardship portion of the Mahoney/McIntire Conservation Project, said Lee Hayes, land trust treasurer. If the trust doesn’t raise the additional $25,000, it won’t get the donation, he said. Total purchase price of the property is $500,000 and more than $300,000 has been raised during a year-long campaign. Acquisition of the parcel would preserve existing hiking trails and provide opportunity for more public recreational use, Hayes said. The lands trust owns or has conservation restrictions on 45 properties in Marion for a total of 1,300 acres. For information, visit www.sippicanlandstrust.org or call 508-748-3080. - Paul Kandarian
