- Users of town water in Sharon will pay a base fee starting in 2012, regardless of how much they use. Selectmen voted Oct. 4 to institute a fee of $15 per quarter to help offset costs, such as maintenance of pipes. “What you’re paying for is the ability of the system to deliver water to your house, and that’s the same regardless of how much you use,” said Eric Hooper, superintendent of public works. The board also set next year’s water rates. The town employs an ascending scale, so customers who use more water pay a higher rate per gallon. Winter rates for 2012 run from $3 to $12 per 1,000 gallons, depending on usage. Summer rates are $1 to $1.50 higher. - Jennette Barnes
