Busy month at the library

The Turner Free Library has a number of activities in the coming weeks for children and adults. In the children’s department, on Oct. 27 at 10:30 a.m., youngsters ages 2 1/2 to 5 can learn about animals through stories and an art project. On Nov. 10 from 4 to 7 p.m., “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” will be shown, and Hogwarts finery is encouraged. Light refreshment is provided, and attendees can bring a bagged meal. On Nov. 15, from 4 to 5 p.m., the library will offer a Cabin Fever Celebration for the release of the sixth book in Jeff Kinney’s Wimpy Kids series. Register for these free events via Adult book lovers may want to join the Shalom Readers’ Group, which explores books with Jewish themes. Meetings are held the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting is Oct. 24, when a novel by lawyer Alan M. Dershowitz, “Just Revenge,” will be discussed. On Oct. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m., artist Greg Maichack will hold a free workshop on “The Art of Georgia O’Keeffe: How to Pastel-Paint Flowers.’’ No artistic experience necessary and all materials are provided.
