Venturing Out, a Wellesley-based nonprofit that teaches inmates about to be released from prison how to start their own businesses on the outside, has launched a campaign to raise $3,000 to support the production of a play. “The Castle,” written and performed off-Broadway by four former inmates, tells the stories of their lives - how they ended up in prison, and how they struggled and eventually succeeded when they got out. Shira Milikowsky, artistic director fellow at the American Repertory Theater, will direct the local production, which is slated to be performed at Babson College on Dec. 8. Tickets for the single performance will range from $10 to $50, and will help Venturing Out grow. Currently, volunteers teach in four prisons in Massachusetts. “We can’t keep up with demand,” said Laura Winig, Venturing Out’s executive director. “We need to expand, and expansion takes money.” From now until Nov. 2, at 10:22 a.m., donors can go to www.kickstarter.com/projects/venturingout to donate in amounts of $1 or more. - Evan Allen![]()
