The town is holding a household hazardous waste collection day next Saturday. The collection, scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon, allows residents to dispose of household hazardous materials in an environmentally responsible way. The event is open only to Saugus residents who preregister. Details, including the location of the dropoff site, will be provided to residents when they preregister. Materials accepted include oil-based paints, paint thinners, photography chemicals, pesticides, antifreeze, and car batteries. Disposal is free for all accepted items, except for propane tanks, which require a $5 sticker, and car and truck tires, which require a $2 sticker and a $10 sticker respectively. All stickers must be purchased from the Inspectional Services Department prior to the event. Materials not accepted include commercial waste and explosives. To preregister, call the Inspectional Services Department at 781-231-4115. Meanwhile, the town clerk’s office reminds voters that they can apply for an absentee ballot for the Nov. 8 town election from tomorrow through noon on Nov. 7. The deadline to register to vote in the election is Wednesday. The clerk’s office will be open until 8 p.m. on Wednesday to accommodate residents who want to register but are busy during the day. - John Laidler![]()
