Land purchase on warrant

A proposal to spend $230,000 to acquire the 8-acre Smith property on Main Street, and to raise property taxes to cover the bill, is the major issue facing voters in the Special Town Meeting set to convene at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Florence Sawyer School. If the measure is approved, there would also be a special election on Nov. 21 to decide the Proposition 2 1/2 override. The property would be used in part to create a town common, officials said.
