- The town last week was set to wrap up its 2011 road resurfacing program. Bob Lee, director of operations for the Department of Public Works, said that contractors were scheduled to carry out the last project - repaving Doty Avenue and the parking area at the Smith School. Previously completed construction included the resurfacing of Summer Street except for a small section near Delaware Avenue and Strawberry Hill Lane, which was repaved three years ago as part of a sewer project. The Summer Street work also included sidewalk and drainage improvements. Other previously completed work included sidewalk improvements on Hood Road and Prospect Street and the resurfacing of Elm Street, a project that also involved sidewalk improvements, granite curbing, tree replacements, and new crosswalks. The town also resurfaced Liberty Street, Bayview Avenue, and Bayview Terrace, and part of Berry Street. In addition, sections of concrete sidewalks and wheelchair ramps in Danvers Square were replaced; and Clinton Street, Needham Street, and the Thorpe School parking area were repaved. The program, which also included repairs to cracks on a number of streets, was funded through state Chapter 90 road improvement money and the town’s pavement management program. For the first time in recent years, the town also used some of its Chapter 90 money for equipment purchases, which included a traffic control message board. - John Laidler ![]()
