Helping Our Troops, a Stoneham-based nonprofit that strives to support Massachusetts troops stationed overseas, is asking the public to “Adopt a Box” this holiday season as part of the group’s recently launched “Operation Holiday Heroes.” The goal is to raise $25,000 by Nov. 30 to ship out 2,000 packages. The group currently supports 154 combat units in Iraq and Afghanistan, and one combat hospital. The cost to adopt a box is $15, which will help pay the shipping cost for one care package filled with a variety of items, including toiletries, playing cards, snacks, and coffee. Contributions are tax-deductible. To adopt a box, send a check payable to H.O.T. and note “Adopt-a-Box” on the memo line. Donations may be mailed to StonehamBank, Attention: H.O.T., 80 Montvale Ave., Stoneham, MA 02180.
