Newly named North Andover’s town manager, Andrew Maylor has agreed to a five-year contract with a $145,000 annual salary for the first three years.

His salary will be open to negotiation the last two years of his contract, said Tracy Watson, chairwoman of the Board of Selectmen.

Maylor’s current base salary as town administrator in Swampscott is $132,500, according to Treasurer Denise M. Dembkoski.

Former town manager Mark Rees, who left in July to become city manager in Portland, Maine, earned approximately $127,000 at the end of his time in North Andover, said Cathy Darby, the town’s human resources director. Maylor will not participate in North Andover’s health insurance plan, a decision that will save the town about $17,000 a year, Watson said.

Swampscott’s Board of Selectmen accepted Maylor’s resignation Wednesday, effective Dec. 23. However, Maylor is expected to finish his duties in Swampscott by Dec. 15, and then use a week’s vacation to complete his term, Dembkoski said.

He is expected to officially start his duties in North Andover on Dec. 16, Watson said.
