The Lynn Community Health Center was recently awarded a grant from the GE Foundation. The grant was one of two $250,000 awards made to community health centers to help increase access to primary care for uninsured and underserved populations. The other recipient was Whittier Street Community Health Center in Boston. The foundation is the philanthropic organization of General Electric and the GE Corporate Diversity Council. The grant to Lynn Community comes as the organization recently held an event to celebrate the completion of the first phase of an $18.8 million expansion. The phase involved construction of a 55,000-square-foot addition to the center’s existing 30,000-square-foot main building at 269 Union St. and development of the first floor of the addition to house a new urgent-care center. Victoria Reggie Kennedy was among those attending the recent celebration, in which the atrium in the new building was dedicated to her late husband, US Senator Edward M. Kennedy. - John Laidler
